Physics and the economy

Physics is central to the UK economy. Whether through the application of novel research and technologies, or through the skills and abilities of physics-trained workers, physics drives businesses and innovation.

One of our key roles, and that of our members, is to ensure those with decision-making power fully understand the contribution a strong and connected physics business community can make to the economy, and how vital a well funded, thriving R&D base is to the discovery and solutions process.

We are committed to representing physics-based businesses and physicists at the highest levels of government and produce policy briefings and influential reports highlighting the critical contribution that physics-based businesses make to our economy.

We also commissioned a series of reports from Deloitte to investigate the employment opportunities and economic value physics-based businesses deliver across the UK and Ireland.
